Lisa, Danielle, and Andrea firmly took the reigns for this album early on, with a very strong vision of what they wanted it to ultimately be. They wanted an album that would be right out on the cutting edge, sonically, full of modern r&b and soul sounds, that could compete with the likes of Alicia Keys, Mary J Blige, or even Lauryn Hill. This Is Your Life is the finished product, a thoroughly trend-setting album, with scorching hot rhythms and searing harmonies. The trio tackles every sound from r&b to dance to traditional gospel to even some disco leanings, with producers like Todd Collins, Donnie Scantz, Jamie Portee, Lee Jerkins, David Hackley, and even Lisa Kimmey herself, at the helm.
Lyrically, the ladies address topics personal to them, like female stereotypes, fulfilling one's destiny in Christ, and growing up in a single parent family. Elsewhere, they uplift and encourage, quietly worship God, and find God to be the ultimate calming presence in the midst of life's insanity.
Overall, This Is Your Life mostly lives up to the high standards that were set for it, fulfilling the group's desire to create something musically fresh and exciting, while never backing away from what they believe in the lyrical department. - Robin Parrish
