Despite the frustrations that come with being a little-known Christian rap artist, Playdough keeps his chin up, choosing to take the high ground and fully embrace his calling. Lonely Superstar is, on the one hand, about this dichotomy between trying to not focus on what we don't have, but being unable to ignore what we need. It also carries a strong message, which comes right out of this dichotomy, that everything on this earth will pass away, so all these things we want and need -- respect, money, friends -- it's all very temporary.
The programming is oh-so-hip with plenty of live instruments added to the mix to give it a distinctively fresh flavor. Playdough's delivery is smoother than ever (when does this guy take a breath?), and he receives help from friends LMNO, Jurny Big (of Tunnel Rats), Freddie Bruno, Manchild (of Mars ILL), and Joey the Jerk and J-Beits of L.A. Symphony.
